Butterfly Efx Shade

Lauren Moriarty has created an interesting visual treat with the Butterfly Effect lampshade. The layering of the butterfly prints on the screen-printed shade creates an interference effect, so the butterflies appear to flap their wings.

The Butterfly Effect gets its name, of course, from the well-known chaos theory thought experiment: if a butterfly flaps its wings, can it cause a hurricane on the other side of the world? Moriarty?s experimentation with the chaotic patterning of these butterflies makes this an interesting and thought-provoking design.
