One Foot Taller is an award-winning lighting design and supply company and has been producing elegant decorative lighting since 1995. The pieces combine elementary modern lines and utilitarian grace with the occasional drop of humour. One Foot Taller believes in matching good design with a clear conscience. Sustainability and fairness with suppliers makes all of the work getting designs into production worth it. A heady mix of wanting fairness, playing with manufacturing, loving elegance and getting excited by things that work well for people's lives is what makes One Foot Taller tick. Recognition. There have been welcome comments and critiques from many exhibitions and publications over the years, of which winning the Peugeot Design Awards and being given Millennium Product status for the Chasm Chair are the most memorable. The Queen has invited us to tea more than once and you’ll find One Foot Taller work in The International Design Yearbook and Conran Octopus Contemporary Furniture. The company was founded by Katty Barac and Will White (who is one foot taller than Katty) when they graduated as product designers from Glasgow School of Art in 1995. Will later became head of Dyson's Product Innovation and is now a fantastic jeweller. Katty loves the interesting challenges of of designing and producing for interiors, and over the years this has led to a concentrated focus on timeless decorative lighting for home and commercial settings. A range of One Foot Taller products are available to buy on this site, and they're also sold by discerning retailers around the world. For interior contracts both these standard and also bespoke products are produced for background and feature lighting. If you're a retailer, specifier or would like something designed get in touch. One Foot Taller is based in Glasgow, GB, but Katty also now designs from her studio and workshops in rural France, where she lives with her husband Quinny and their two children Ella and Dylan. This environment is great for seeing far too many birds and sheep out of the studio window. It's also why you might receive products from a small factory in UK, or from a rather smaller workshop in France.
